When Will it Rain?

“In the evenings, before I went to sleep, and in the mornings, in the moment I woke up, I realized I was praying for rain.” – Takao Akizuki ( The Garden of Words)

These words are hauntingly beautiful, but what does it mean? I feel like I have to give you a small summary, this quote is from an anime film on Netflix called The Garden of Words it is about two individuals from different generations that live in their worlds until they meet at a beautiful garden. They feel different from others; they share the same feeling of alienation; the beauty of this film is that they only meet at this garden every time it rains. They develop a close bond, but it comes to find out that this mystery woman hasn’t told this young high schooler much about herself, which leads to the realization that they can not be.

Why would you pray for rain? Others see rain as a nuisance, but I have never felt the way towards rain. I can relate to the young man in this film; he has a maturity that resembles my own. I pray for rain because there is nothing more beautiful than the sound of rain against the roof. The way the rain feels against my skin illuminates each hidden emotion within.

So, many times do I wait for God, hoping He will leave hidden words into my pocket as I place my hands in them. While watching this, I learned that there is a beauty to waiting, either for someone you love or God himself, the beauty of waiting is to love the silence.

I hope it rains soon.
